It’s possible by using a thorns 2 book on one of them. Yes it is possible but still will result in thorns II enchantment not thorns III so the only way is by combining two armors,even if,it will be too expensive.
Is thorns a good enchantment for armor?
Thorns are good in single player worlds as mobs cant break your armour too easily and you can easily heal your armour with bottles of enchanting. In PvP though its not very good as your armour can break very easily, especially in the end game when fights will go on for longer because of the higher tier armour.

Currently if you enchant a shield with thorns blocking will not cause the thorns to activate. You have to be holding in your main or off hand and take damage for the thorns to work. I think that it would be cool and make sense for the shield to work with thorns while blocking and it would be a quick thing to implement.
