Every player with no matchmaking experience has to win 10 matches before getting his rank. He can either play alone or group with other 4 players (grouping with less players is not possible). An unranked player will start playing with a default amount of ELO points.

If you lose a few before you win that match then you might get deranked before your rank is displayed. It is probably a month, but that is just a guess. I will know soon because I haven’t played competitive since Operation Breakout ended. So it’s been almost a month. It “expires” after 30 days I think.
