How do you send companions to settlements?
You have to send them to a settlement of choice. Yeah you can send them to whatever settlement you want. Pressing circle at the choice menu sends to their default spot UNLESS you have sent them to a settlement before, then they default to that last settlement and will never ever return to their default home again.
Can you send companions to Diamond City?
I have noticed a couple of occasions when companions will return to their homes – Piper and Nick Valentine will both return to Diamond City at particular story points.
