Followers do not benefit from Legendary Gems equipped on them except Esoteric Alteration & Mutilation Guard. This is extremely useful to help them survive in speed content and use a token that gives Follower all skills or halves its Cooldowns. They do benefit from Enforcer if you have it equipped.
What weapons can the enchantress use?
The Enchantress is similar to a Warhammer Bright Wizard; she can use any non-specialized two handed weapon or magic wand. Axes, maces or spears that increase her Intelligence are best.

The Templar is able to equip shields, one-handed axes, dagger, one-handed maces, one-handed spears, one-handed swords, two rings, one amulet and a Templar specific item called Templar Relics at level 18.

Do you get extra damage with a sorceress orb?
Damage Bonus: Extra damage based on the physical damage of a weapon. Each point in strength adds 1% of the orb’s total physical damage as a bonus. Not that anyone is using orbs for their melee damage.

This is in contrast with magic items possessing class-specific Skill Level and Sorceress Skill Tree prefixes, which may be used by classes other than the Sorceress without benefiting from the skill modifiers, and Staves, which can possess inherent bonuses of +1-3 skill points to up to three Sorceress skills from any of her skill trees.

Orbs are basically one-handed staves, so Sorceresses can now get +skills while still using a shield. Of course with blocking so nerfed for non-Dexterity characters, these aren’t quite the god-send they would have been in Diablo II.
