A land doesn’t produce mana as a result of being tapped. It produces mana as a result of you activating its mana ability, and the cost of the ability generally is to tap the land. That’s different. If a land enters the battlefield tapped, you can’t use its mana ability because you can’t pay the cost of tapping it.
Can you tap a land on the turn you play it?
Each phase is divided into multiple steps. You can however tap a land at the beginning of your turn use the mana cast a spell then still untap it during your untapp phase.
Does land come in tapped magic?
For the longest time, Magic has had lands that can produce colorless, 1 color, 2 colors, or any color. They do come in tapped so they don’t see any competitive play and they are most helpful in commander, especially when your commander is 4 or 5 colors.
When do you start attacking the creature lands?
In many games, creature lands are relatively simple to play with. You treat them as a normal land in the early game, until you’ve played out all the spells in your hand. Then, once you reach the late stages of the game and no longer need to spend all of your mana every turn, you can start attacking!
Do you turn creatures sideways before declaring attackers?
Players commonly rush into combat by simply turning creatures sideways to indicate they’re ready to declare attackers. In reality, there is a whole step of combat before you declare attackers, called the “Beginning of combat step.” You always get a chance to do stuff at that point before your opponent can declare attackers.
Why do you have to play creature lands?
In an indirect way, creature lands can also help mitigate the risks of being mana hosed. When you don’t have to worry as much about mana flood, you’re free to play more lands than you normally would. (You might feel comfortable playing, say, 24 or 25 lands instead of 23).
What happens when you put a creature on the battlefield?
You look at the cards, pick a creature (if there is one), put it directly onto the battlefield, then put the rest on the bottom of the library. The creature is never cast as a spell. There are some effects in the game that can counter an ability, but they’re very few and far between. The text will specifically say whether it can counter abilities.
