According to this thread in the Minecraft Forums that seems to have peeked into the code, length dilation does not affect the y-axis. At destination, look for the closest active nether portal within a 128 block radius of the player (257x257x128 area centered on destination) (the Euclidean distance (the 3D distance)).
What Y axis is best for Nether fortress?
X-axis
Nether fortresses tend to cluster together in strips that run along the Z-axis (north and south). Players who travel along the X-axis (east or west) will have the best chances of finding one; those who travel north or south may travel for hundreds or thousands of blocks before discovering a fortress.
Does the Y coordinate affect Nether portals?
This is simply because the Nether portal has two effective coordinates as it is 2 blocks wide, say (X, Y, Z) on the left, and (X+1, Y, Z) on the right. If the player entered on the left side, (X, Y, Z) translates to (X*8, Y, Z*8) in the overworld and the game picks the portal closest to that.
What is the normal Y coordinate for the Nether?
Divide the X and Z of the village coordinates by 8, to get roughly X = 132 and Z = -98. Then, make a Nether portal at spawn, go through and travel to X = 132 and Z = -98 in the Nether, and up to Y=78. Make your Nether portal here, and when you go through into the Overworld, you should come out at or near the village.
What is Y 0 in the nether?
Features and effects by height
| Y-coordinate | CollapseFeature or effect |
|---|---|
| 1–4 | Partial layers of bedrock in the Overworld [until JE 1.18] and the Nether. |
| 0 | Full bedrock layer in the Overworld [until JE 1.18] and the Nether. |
| Top face of the Void [until JE 1.18]; bottom face of the lowest block that can be placed. |
Is Y level the same in the nether?
This range is +/- 128 blocks on both horizontal axes, and from y=0 up to 128 (in the nether) or 256 (in the overworld.)
What y level do Netherite spawn?
8-22
Netherite spawns mostly in the Y-axis of 8-22, but it can spawn less so in 8-119. (Note: Ancient Debris is explosion-proof, so TNT mining is viable!)
What is Y in the nether?
Main translates to: x: -2.75 y: 8.125 z: 32.625. and Tower translates to: x: 2.125 y: 30.5 z: 37. in the Nether.
What’s the Y axis for the Nether portal?
Then, on the other side, it searches for any active portal in a certain range. This range is +/- 128 blocks on both horizontal axes, and from y=0 up to 128 (in the nether) or 256 (in the overworld.)
Are there any overworld mobs that can spawn in the Nether?
Skeletons, chickens, and endermen are the only Overworld mobs that can naturally spawn in the Nether; in Java Edition, baby zombified piglins may spawn as chicken jockeys. Other Overworld mobs do not naturally spawn in the Nether but can be teleported through portals (with the exception of withers and ender dragons).
What happens when you go to the Nether in Minecraft?
Most creatures found in the Nether are hostile and potentially dangerous. Locations in the Nether correlate to Overworld coordinates, but horizontal Overworld distances are scaled down by a ratio of 8:1 for travel in the Nether. Therefore, traveling one block in the Nether means traveling eight blocks in the Overworld.
How to find the overworld portal in Nether?
Since coordinates in Nether are an eighth of the Overworld, that means the portal will be within 400 blocks from 0,y,0 (and you can estimate the radius by estimating the distance of the overworld portal from spawn.) You can also estimate the altitude (y) – 64 if that was the surface, more for hills, less for underground.
