Realignment has a different purpose than placing influence (to remove opponent influence rather than place your own). It can be conducted in battlegrounds even when DEFCON is 2. It is more effective than coups when you have your target surrounded. It can target multiple countries in one action round.
Does junta affect DEFCON?
Does Junta count for MilOps or degrade Defcon? No and yes. If you make your coup in a battleground, then it degrades defcon. However, since it’s a “free” coup attempt, it does not give you any military ops.
