DiMA will travel to Far Harbor to face trial, and if you’ve done enough side quests and have high enough Charisma, you can prevent the assault on Acadia. DiMA will be killed no matter what.

So basically, Far Harbor provides a jumping off point for any runaway synths making their way to Acadia and Acadia helps keep the fog at bay for Far Harbor, a win win. Side note, I wish there had been a way to warn certain people in the Nucleus to run or abandon the Chlildren of Atom before nuking the place.
