I was having the same problem, but realized that you just need to go to options>video settings>quality> turn ON custom items.

- In your textures folder create a new folder called “blocks”.
- Copy the stone texture from the Vanilla Minecraft Resource Pack into our new blocks folder.
- Open stone texture in an image editing software and make edits.
- Test in-game.

Custom item models with Optifine in Minecraft 1.8.9? I’m trying to make a resource pack for the Hypixel Network’s Skyblock gamemode, where they have hundreds of custom items. Many people including me are making large resource packs to assign custom textures to these items and differentiate between them more easily.
Is the Optifine pack compatible with Minecraft 1.8.9?
While Hypixel supports all players 1.8.9 onward, the server itself runs on 1.8.9 which is what most of the players use. I’m creating the pack for 1.8.9 to ensure maximum compatibility. Some of the swords used aren’t actually swords at all, for example the Emerald Blade is an actual emerald.
When did Optifine stop supporting custom item models?
Upon doing a bit more research, I learned that OptiFine only began supporting custom item models in 2017, which was after the release of 1.9 when OptiFine stopped updating their 1.8.9 version.
