Where does your car go when it gets towed?
Once your car has been moved to a safe parking space, the tow truck driver will contact the Transport Management Centre to advise where your car has been parked. When you find your car you can drive away. If you can’t find your vehicle using Find My Car, contact our Transport Management Centre on 131 700.
Why do cars get impounded?

How can I prevent my car from being impounded?
Get off the road Do not even consider leaving your car stranded on the middle of the road regardless of the amount of traffic congestion. Get off the road, find a safe spot to park your vehicle, and call 911 and/or road assistance. You are advised not to be far away from your vehicle until it’s placed on a safe spot.
What happens if a car is impounded?
If your vehicle is impounded, you may have to wait even longer before it can be returned. When your car is impounded, it’s taken to a tow yard or an impoundment lot. The car will remain there until it can be recycled, auctioned off, taken to a wrecking yard, or claimed by its owner.
How long can my car be impounded if I loan it to someone?
Generally, it requires either the towing company or the county sheriff’s office to hold the vehicle for 10 to 14 days while they identify and contact the vehicle owner or lien holder.
