Reins of the Onyx Cloud Serpent is a reward from the quest Surprise Attack!. The quest is available on becoming Exalted with Shado-Pan. Before you can learn this mount you must be Exalted with Order of the Cloud Serpent have [Cloud Serpent Riding] from the Order of the Cloud Serpent.

Why can’t I attack Alani?
Alani has a protective buff called Nimbus Shroud. This prevents all players from attacking it. To remove Nimbus Shroud, you need to collect 10 Skyshards to create a Sky Crystal. Now this is where things get tricky.

How do I get my Cloud Serpent Mount?
To begin, head to the Arboretum and speak to Elder Anli the Serpent Master, who will send you to Windward Isle to the northwest. Upon finishing the opening chain, you’ll be roughly honored with the Order of the Cloud Serpent, and you’ll have picked a cloud serpent of your very own to raise.
Does Alani drop everyone?
unfortunately… they are super rare drops from all MoP NPC’s that are level 90. However, if you collect 10 of these crystal fragments, you can combine them into a Sky Crystal and fight this rare dragon spawn.
Is thundering Ruby cloud serpent rare?
Skyshards have a low drop rate of about 1/1000. They can be found in Treasures of the Vale (from Golden Lotus Dalies),Small Bag of Goods (from rare spawns in the Vale) and looted from most mobs found in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
How do I get thundering cloud serpent?
You must be level 85 and have Artisan Riding to learn this mount after purchasing it at Exalted with the guild. Your characters do need to be level 90 and Exalted with Order of the Cloud Serpent to ride it.
How do you pull Alani?
Very simple: Once you have 10 Skyshards, click them to create a sky crystal and then find Alani, target him and Click the Sky Crystal. Is the mount a 100% from Alani, or does it get mailed or instantly added? The mount is a 100% Drop but remember that it requires an exalted reputation with the August celestials!
