From my understanding, Root Chalice Dungeons are randomly generated – that is, no two maps are the same (generally speaking). However, each dungeon generates a “key”, so that other players can connect directly to it, for PvE or PvP.
How do I get the short ritual root chalice?

- (Before patch 1.04) Received by defeating the Pthumerian Elder in the Lower Hintertomb Chalice.
- (After patch 1.04) Can be purchased from the Insight Bath Messengers for 10 Insight after completely clearing the Pthumeru Chalice.
Can you co op chalice dungeons?
You can Co Op with a friend by giving them your Chalice Glyph or by them giving you theirs and entering it in at a Ritual Altar in Hunter’s Dream. All Chalice Dungeons can be Co Oped, but only some can be PvPed.
How does the makeshift altar work?
The Makeshift Altar allows one to connect to other players’ Chalice Dungeons after obtaining the Short Ritual Root Chalice. Once a dungeon is found a Chalice is placed on the altar and becomes permanently accessible until removed.
Where is the makeshift altar wow?
You should get a “hand’ icon when hovering over the crate. Click it and then the small island will show up on your map for where the makeshift alter is located. /Edit to say: The altar is on top of the hill, not in the cave as you come out of the water or the cave under the water.
How do you join someone in a chalice?
If you play with a friend, give your friend dungeon’s glyph code (letters and numbers in the bottom right corner in your altar menu). Your friend should enter this code at the altar in “Search by chalice glyph” option. After that your friend will have the same dungeon like you.
How do ritual altars work bloodborne?
Ritual Altars are found at the seven tombstones that line the path leading up to the rear of the Workshop in the Hunter’s Dream. Conducting a Chalice Ritual at a Ritual Altar will create the Chalice Dungeon, serving as a warp point to all the Lamps found throughout the Chalice Dungeon itself.
Does it matter which ritual altar I use?
There is no difference between the Rituals Altars, with exception of the Makeshift Altar which is for multiplayer (co-op or invasion) dungeons only.
What happens if I remove a chalice?
The chalices themselves are permanent items, you can’t lose them (though you can store them in your storage box if you want). The only thing you’ll be “losing” when removing a chalice is the ingredients used to make it (which were consumed when you made it) and of course, any unfinished progress through the dungeon.
Are chalice dungeons optional?
Entirely optional, Chalice Dungeons are huge, multi-layer labyrinths sprawling beneath Yharnam. Each one is unique, but can be shared by uploading your dungeon for other players to access. You can download other’s dungeons, too. There’s a good 30 hours or more of content in the main Chalice Dungeon questline.
Are chalice dungeons worth doing?
Absolutely yes, they’ll neg you out but you’ll feel great once you’ve completed them all. It’s just worth it for gem farming, get it out of the way so you never have to go back lol. The fact that there’s only 15 weapons makes them not really worth it loot wise. I do them for fun.
Are there secret walls in bloodborne?
Illusory Walls are secret passages revealing hidden chests, treasures and items in Bloodborne. While some secrets in the main game are concealed by breakable objects (such as the hidden path through a window leading to the Ebrietas boss fight), illusory walls are only found in Chalice dungeons.
Does bloodborne have mimics?
Bloodborne already is defined as a horror game anyway. And no, no mimics, but they have some tricks that are just as devious… There are plenty of jumpscares and other traps like that.
How do you open the secret door in bloodborne?
The Illusory Walls are present in Chalice Dungeons you can find them in preset Lower Pthumeru or various Root Chalice Dungeons. They emit a windy sound similar to the one you hear before fighting a boss in the dungeons. You can reveal such wall by hitting or rolling into it.
Are there fake chests in bloodborne?
Yes there are mimics, but they are randomly generated. If the mimic changed back into a normal chest, your blood echoes would likely be on the floor near the chest the next time you came in.
How do I use messengers as a gift?
A strange gift from the Messengers, inhabitants of the dream who revere the brave hunters. Use to envelop oneself in a black nightmarish mist, then transform into a messenger. The illusion is a parlour trick, and any large movement will break the spell.
