You have to do the little flip over the shock guy’s back (double tap x towards them) & hit them from the back. The knife guys, stun them (O) before you attack them regularly.
Why does Batman use counter attacks in Arkham Asylum?
Non-counter attacks with Batman (the slowest character) may easily fail against quick enemies such as Ninjas or Combat Experts if they’re about to launch counterable attacks and result in him getting hit, therefore using counters against these attacks is preferable.
