Well the Anvils are the Enchant number cap. I think the cap is 12 for all items. Therefore If you find an item that has 10/12, you can’t add an enchant of 4 anvils. Also, the max number of enchants an item can have is 4. You also can’t add a redundant enchant.

Only thing that cant be changed that i kno of is the Elemental and Target damage just quality. I don’t think you can replace enchantments for something better like you want, once an enchantments on it it gets locked in.
