It didn’t matter until they introduced Aldia as the optional last boss. If you want to fight him, you need to talk to him 3 different times upon lighting bonfires (primal bonfire #4, Undead Crypt, and Dragon Shrine). Then you need to kill Vendrick before Nashandra in order for him to appear after the Nash fight.

I didn’t know that I need to go OUT of the throne room for the second ending.. after aldia I did go into the throne and had the first ending >.<. Yes. I didn’t kill Vendrick.
