Once Valakut is online, Scapeshift decks essentially draw a Lightning Bolt (or better) every turn. Rather than its ramp spells being blanks, and rather than lands meaning the deck floods out, Scapeshift decks are happy to snap off Valakut triggers until the game is over.
How does Valakut the molten pinnacle work?
Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle has an ability that says: Whenever a Mountain enters the battlefield under your control, if you control at least five other Mountains, you may have Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle deal 3 damage to target creature or player.
How does Valakut work with prismatic omen?
If you throw in the enchantment Prismatic Omen you can deal even more damage. This is because Prismatic Omen will make the Valakut itself into a Mountain. In the example above the Valakut itself will trigger it’s own ability allowing you to deal a total of 21 points of damage.
How do I use Scapeshift?
The basic combo is simple: Ramp up to seven lands, cast Scapeshift and sacrifice all your lands, bring in Valakut and six mountains, and deal 18 damage for an instant kill. Most Modern Scapeshift decks do have some redundancy, using cards like Primeval Titan as alternates to Scapeshift.
How does prismatic omen work?
2008-05-01: Each land you control will have the land types Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest. They’ll also have the mana ability of each basic land type (for example, Forests can tap to produce ). They’ll still have their other subtypes and abilities.

Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle deals damage in multiples of three, at minimum, the Scapeshift deck needs to sacrifice seven lands in order to get the triggers to resolve appropriately. Doing so, will usually result in eighteen damage being dealt, killing the opponent.
How does Field of the Dead work?
Field of the Dead’s last ability counts itself and the land entering the battlefield in addition to whichever other lands you control. If multiple lands enter the battlefield simultaneously, possibly including Field of the Dead itself, all of those lands are counted.
How many triggers does a Valakut do in magic?
This means that if you have 6 Mountains entering the battlefield at the same time, with a Valakut in play (or entering at the same time as the Mountains), each one will see that there are 5 others, resulting in 6 triggers, or 18 damage. An additional Valakut would double that for 12 triggers and 36 damage, and it scales from there.
Can a are / G Valakut win before Turn 4?
The TitanShift flavor of Valakut simply can’t win before turn 4, and the turn-4 wins aren’t very common. Interaction will be necessary in game 1, and even that won’t always be enough. Now, that isn’t the only form of R/G Valakut in the format. In fact, there’s another version that can win as early as turn 3.
Is the are / G Valakut deck a good choice?
I’m a big fan of R/G Valakut and have always felt it was one of the coolest decks in Modern. Team ChannelFireball played R/G Valakut at a Pro Tour, to unfortunately poor results, but I’m still not convinced it was a bad choice.
