Why is there a Brahmin in my settlement?
When actively recruiting for a settlement with a recruitment radio beacon, there is a chance a brahmin will arrive instead of a settler. Settlements can have multiple brahmin. Brahmin will increase settlement food production while also producing fertilizer, a chemistry component that will be placed in the workbench.

A food assignment means a settler will harvest up to six units of food – this means it can be either six melons or 12 pieces of corn or any combination, as long as it adds up to 6 units. Which food they do is entirely random as far as I can see, as I have six farmers all working my garden and they don’t always work in the same areas.

No settlers will be gathered by your recruitment beacons at settlement with maximum population. No settlers, or companions can be moved, or sent to a location with maximum population. No Supply Lines can be established leading to a settlement with maximum population. Update; Charisma from items apparently dose impact population size.
How do you assign a settler to a crop?
You enter build mode, then look at the settler you want to assign. You’ll see the X button to Command them. Command, then move to the crop you want them to harvest. If the crop has a green person on its display, it has already been assigned to a different settler. If it’s a red person, there is no one assigned to it.
