The Greatsword is easy to make and tops out at a whopping 70 elemental damage. Since this weapon has such low raw attack, you might as well lean into it.
What is the elemental damage cap MHW?
Said limits are now basically gone. In fact, elemental damage skills can now go even higher: from the old cap of level 5 to a new one of level 6. Lower levels of elemental damage skills still work the same as before, but you’ll see increased benefits in the middle range and higher.
Is Elemental Greatsword good?
Elemental greatswords are not it. They’re cool, and I use them a bit, but if I’m truly going for kill times, raw GS is incomparable, especially because it allows focus on skills other than elemental boost which take too many slots and augments and are inefficient on GS.

Critical hits granted by Affinity normally only affect Raw (Physical) Damage and not elemental damage.
Does increased chaos damage effect poison?
All poison damage is chaos damage… but not all chaos is poison. Increased chaos damage will buff chaos and poison (which is chaos damage). Increased damage over time will also buff both bane and poison.
Can a bowgun be used as an elemental attack?
If such a small value is used as the Elemental attack in the Elemental Damage Output calculation (in the formula above), it makes no sense because bowguns would be severely disadvantaged because the actual elemental damage dealt would be 4.5 times some elemental effectiveness, which is usually a low percentage.

Each damaging Ammo type has its own Motion Value (MV), which is used when calculating damage. Elemental attacks from Bowguns are subjected to both this and the Weapon type multiplier, and use the Raw Attack value as the starting Elemental value. See Damage Types for more information.

Elemental Damage is normally not affected by a weapon’s Affinity. The Critical Element Skill will allow Elemental Damage to strike critical hits. Poison, Sleep, Paralysis, Blast and Stun are Status Effects, which are separate from Elemental Damage and Raw (Physical) Damage.
How much elemental damage does Blademaster weapon do?
Blademaster weapons have a 1-in-3 chance per hit to apply Abnormal Status damage, while Gunner weapons always apply Abnormal Status damage. If a monster has no weakness to a specific element on their Hitzone, then no Elemental damage is dealt.
