GOG: you paid for the game, you own the game. you are buying the game itself, like an old school CD, as long as you have the copy or the file of the game, you can play or do whatever you want with it. Steam: you dont own the game, you own the right to play the game.

In theory, the idea is simple enough: If you own a GOG Connect-eligible game on Steam, you can link your accounts and add the game to your GOG library, free of charge. Since GOG games are DRM-free and come with lots of digital extras, it’s a simple way to merge the convenience of Steam with the versatility of GOG.
