The Go board, called the goban 碁盤 in Japanese, is the playing surface on which to place the stones. The standard board is marked with a 19×19 grid. Smaller boards include a 13×13 grid and a 9×9 grid used for shorter games that are often used to teach beginners. Some 19×19 boards have a 13×13 grid on the reverse side.

Snap a chalk line and follow it religiously for the first board. Make sure the first board doesn’t move when installing the second and third boards–consider shimming against the wall, installing more blind nails in the tongue, or top nailing the back of the board under where the baseboard and shoe molding will be.
How big of a board do I need for 4 in.?

edit: GoBoard fasteners are now available and can be spaced every 8 inches as opposed to 6 inches. They are specifically designed for GoBoard with a bigger diameter head for more holding power. Additionally, each 3ft x 5 ft sheet weighs about 8lbs. Much lighter than 30lb+ weights of cement board.
