If you go to the hinterland dragon landmark area by where the the ship and structures are (where you originally looted some crates in a boat) On the other side of the rock wall there is this ladder that lights up when you search but I cannot seem to get to it.

Look up, there is a crumbling bridge leading to that structure. Climb the dilapidated tower opposite it and go across the bridge to climb down the ladder and get the secret. You’ll have to do the typical RPG jump-slide repeatedly to get up it (or at least I did) but it’s definitely possible.

When you go to the house for that quest, search the area to the north to find the body. Defeat the enemies around the body, then loot it to start the quest. Put Varric or Cassandra in your party, then enter Redcliffe and speak to Tanner at the far end of the village. Varric and Cassandra can convince Tanner to assist the Inquisition.
