You only need to start caring about materia when you reach lvl 50 and got the best gear for the class. Later on nq ingredients will be as important as hq ingredients as you should be able to craft hq items with just nq ingredients.
Should I use Materia while leveling?
Materia is super useful when levelling gathering classes. Increasing stats leads directly to higher EXP/hr, and the tier 1 materia give +3. I used to LOVE low-level dueling in Diablo 2.
When can I use Materia?
Materia can be used to enhance your gear. You can attach materia into a piece of equipment with socket(s) to improve its attributes. Players can acquire materia by extracting it from pieces of equipment with 100% spiritbond.
When should I start melding Ffxiv?
The current endgame materia (7 and 8) require a base item level of 420. So, as soon as you get your level 80 Job gear (i430) that’s the first time you can start melding these (but there’s higher level gear which is still easy to get).
How do you make materia?

Can you remove Materia?
You can remove materia through an NPC in central thanalan but I can’t be reused. It’s lost for good at that point.
How do you convert items into materia?
To unlock converting items into Materia, you need to complete the quest “Forging the Spirit”. The only pre-requisite is you need to reach level 19 or greater. To unlock melding Materia onto items, you need to complete the quest which is found right next the first quest giver!
How do you unlock the trauma queen?
This quest is available after completing The Black Wolf’s Ultimatum. Speak with Allene in Western Thanalan at X11-Y13. After, head to Upper La Noscea and speak with Abazi Charazi to complete the quest.
